SSAB Home Furnishing Manager Selected for Prestigious UK Chevening Scholarship

Samoa Stationery and Books’ Home Furnishing Manager, Lupematasila Marlene Kathleen Mulipola has been selected as one of the Samoa’s Chevening Scholars for 2022-2023.

The Chevening Scholarship is a prestigious United Kingdom government international scheme funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office that offers selected World Changers an opportunity to study in the UK for one year on a fully funded Master’s Degree course.

Lupematasila lost both of her parents at a young age and she dedicates this journey to them.

“To my Mum who wanted to be a teacher and to my Dad who was the best speaker/writer I know. God has blessed me with the opportunity they never had, so this is for them..” Lupematasila says with a warm smile.

And that journey will take her to the University of Glasgow, Scotland where Lupematasila will pursue a Master’s of Science (MSc) in Human Rights and International Politics.

Affectionately known as Lupe amongst her work colleagues and SSAB family, the team at Samoa Stationery and Books say they are thrilled to know that Lupematasila is one of the recipients for this year’s Chevening scholarship.

“Lupe is one of our strongest advocators for Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG)..

Lupematasila said she was thankful to the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as well as the local British High Commission, for the opportunity.

“I acknowledge God first and foremost and I am grateful for the help of close friends and family,” she says.

“Thank you to our SSAB CEO, Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai, for her mentorship, and also to my church family for the prayers.”

Lupe has been described by her colleagues as a, “Jane of all Trades”.

“She is a part of our SSAB Management Team, the Vice President for our Social Committee and she is well known as a talented actress and vocalist who has been a popular ambassador in promoting our SSAB brands – including her many humourous tik toks to help promote Positive Spirit”.

She has helped SSAB tremendously in terms of promoting our competitions on many Social Media platforms”.

One of the longest serving Managers in SSAB, Lupe will be missed by her colleagues when she departs with her daughter for the UK in September.

“We believe that God has plans for Lupematasila to prosper and to be successful in all she does as she honors the Lord.”

Lupematasila Marlene is an alumni of the National University of Samoa, where she attained her first degree in 2012 – a Bachelor of Commerce in Management & Marketing.

In recent years, she has worked as a part time lecturer for Marketing at NUS and has mentored many high school and uni students on marketing and management.

Lupematasila is a talented writer and Contributor on Samoa Global News, who often writes about her life’s journey and the challenges of losing her parents.
