Severe Weather Warnings and Advisories issued for all of Samoa by Samoa Meteorological Office

A HEAVY RAIN WARNING and a VALID MARINE WARNING  for all of marine waters of Samoa, was issued early this morning by the Samoa Meteorological office. Also in place are VALID ADVISORIES for FLOOD and WINDS for all of Samoa, including major rivers and vulnerable areas.

The Severe Weather Information issued by the Samoa Meteorological Office, states the current severe weather conditions are expected to prolong over our area throughout the weekend.

Potential impacts of the severe weather current experienced on island include

  • Periods of heavy downpours
  • Poor visibility during rain
  • Foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges
  • Pooling near roadside and waterways
  • Fresh to strong gusty easterly winds.
  • Strong currents with very rough seas

MARINE SEVERE WEATHER INFORMATION NUMBER TWENTY-TWO (E22) ISSUED BY THE SAMOA METEROLOGY DIVISION AT 5:00AM FRIDAY 03RD NOVEMBER 2023. 

VALID MARINE WARNING
A developed high-pressure system still resides further South of Samoa generates fresh-to-strong Easterly winds of 45-55kph. This elevates wave and swells heights to 3-3.5metres or more impacting our marine areas. Global wave models forecast this severe weather condition to prolong through Sunday. Thence, the Marine Warning remains valid for all marine waters of Samoa.

Potential Impacts: Strong currents with very rough seas. Fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds and poor visibility during rain.

PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER INFORMATION NUMBER THREE (A03) FOR SAMOA ISSUED BY THE SAMOA METEOROLGY DIVISION AT 5:00 AM FRIDAY 03RD NOVEMBER 2023.

Moist and cloudy conditions still persist over Samoa. This mainly drive by a convergence zone with associated fresh-to-strong easterly winds of 45-55kph slowly moving from the Northwest. This system may provide scattered showers with heavy downpours and thunderstorms alongside periods of gusy winds for today. Hence, this unsettling weather status may prolong over our area through the weekend. Thus, the highlighted Warning and Advisories are remained enforce for all of Samoa, including all major rivers and vulnerable areas.

Potential Impacts: Periods of heavy downpours with poor visibility, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling over roadisdes and waterways. Expect gusty winds during rain.
