Seeking God’s Approval, Not People’s Praise

SEEKING GOD’S APPROVAL

1Thessalonians 2:6 “We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.”

Paul had every right to be respected as an apostle of Christ. Yet he chose not to demand recognition or seek praise from those he served. His focus wasn’t on his position but on faithfully carrying out the work God had given him.

It’s easy to enjoy the encouragement and appreciation of others, and there’s nothing wrong with expressing gratitude to those who serve faithfully. But seeking praise must never become our motivation. When our identity depends on the approval of people, we become vulnerable to pride when we are praised and discouragement when we are criticised.

Paul found his security in God’s approval rather than human applause. He served because he loved Christ and wanted to honour Him. That gave him the freedom to minister humbly, faithfully, and without selfish ambition.

The same principle applies to every believer. Whether anyone notices your acts of service or not, God sees them. He knows every sacrifice made in His name. Live for the audience of One. His approval is worth far more than the praise of people.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, forgive me when I seek the approval of people more than Your approval. Help me to serve with humility, knowing that You see every act of faithfulness. Keep my heart focused on pleasing You alone. May my life bring honour to Christ in both public and private. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
