A Pasifika church youth group is delighted that it’s been named as a finalist for this year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.
The EFKS Te Atatu Junior Youth is up against Equippers Revolution and Kane Adams for the Best Worship Artist award.
The choir released an album last year Fa’afetai le Atua, Vol.1 in celebration of EFKS Te Atatu’s 40th jubilee.
Youth leader Terence Slade says it’s an honour to be recognised by the mainstream music industry.
“Our church minister has given us the platform to be able to express ourselves using the songs of our elders and putting a youthful voice to it,” he says.
“Being acknowledged in this space and hearing the gospel that you’re hearing coming out now, we’re still in shock and just happy to be a part of it.”
The group won Best Pacific Gospel Artist at the Pacific Music Awards earlier this year.
