Samoa is safer this evening with Samoa Police confirming that they have caught the two escaped prisoners.
Convicted rapist Lauitiiti Tualima of Satapuala and notorious thief and armed robberer Aniseko Vaelei of Vaiusu and Aele are now back in police custody.
A police officer told Samoa Global News that the escaped prisoners had called a former inmate who had shared a cell with Lauititi Tualima to pick them up from Falelauniu near Tafaigata.
The former inmate called the Police instead and by the time he arrived, the Samoa Police were able to capture the escapees.
Responding to Samoa Global News, Police Commissioner Su’a Fuiavailiili Egon Keil says, “Both are in our police cells now.”
“A police taskforce consisting of SPS staff and tactical operations section started working on this right after we were told of the escape;
“We quickly understood the importance of getting these guys into custody and we have done our job;
“We will continue to work with not only Prisons but also our communities to keep Samoa safe”.
