Samoa have eased their way through the pool matches, defeating Columbia 26-7, Hong Kong China 31-17 and Tonga 34-12.
The key to Samoa’s success was their kick offs. Malakesi Masefau was in charge of Samoa’s kickoffs and he put it on the money every time. Taualai Panoa and Motu Opetai capitalised on Masefaus kickoffs and won possession for Samoa every time.
By starving teams of possession, Samoa found the try line with ease.
Samoa put 24 points on Tonga in the first through tries to Owen Niue, Eletise Ese, and Tusitafu Toilolo.
Tonga would draw first blood in the second half but their momentum was shut down by Warren Solomona after a pin point chip and chase to score Samoa’s fifth try.
Solomona would score a second try to put the Tongans away.
Samoa now advance to tomorrow’s semi final against Belgium with kickoff at 9:12pm (Samoa local time).
