Samoan Discus thrower Alex Rose has finished 2025 on a high as he becomes the number one ranked pacific island male athlete in athletics.
As According to the World Athletics Ranking, Alex Rose of Samoa is the Top Ranked Pacific island male athlete at the end of 2025.
Rose competed in the Men’s discus at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan earlier this year where he stamped his mark and Won Samoa’s first ever medal at the World Athletics Championships in the men’s discus with a throw of 66.96m. This was also the first ever medal won by a pacific island athlete in history.
Rose described the moment he had won the bronze medal as “Incredible”.
Seven of the ten pacific athletes were from Papua New Guinea. One athlete from Tahiti and one from Fiji completed the Top 10 pacific island athletes based off the World Athletics Rankings.
It is great to see Pacific athletes competing and representing to put there countries on the world stage showing the amount of talent across the pacific region.
