The Samoa Conservation Society held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 10 December to receive the report of the past year’s activities and elect a new Board to lead its work into 2023.
Avid supporter of SCS, the British High Commissioner to Samoa His Excellency David Ward, attended the AGM. The British High Commissioner has backed several environmental projects such as the Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting initiative and the Vailima Botanical Garden Zoning Project that ensured access for persons with disabilities.
An Environmentalist with over 30 years in the field, Mr James Atherton will continue as President of the non government organisation for 2023, and will be supported by Vice President, Sala Josephine Stowers.
SCS Secretary for 2023 is Agnes Slade and Treasurer duties will be taken up by Eric Clem Groves.
In addition to the four office bearers there are five board members in Leilani Duffy, Nicc Moeono, Niusila Eteuati, Fiona Sapatu, and Johannes Uili.
The President acknowledged and thanked His Excellency David Ward for the continuous support of the UK High Commission in Samoa.
“We hope members found the AGM useful and interesting. We appreciate all the ideas and suggestions made,” said Atherton.
Special messages of acknowledgement and appreciation were expressed for two outgoing board members who had served SCS for several years.
SCS thanked 2022 Board members Christian Duerst, Ferron Fruean, Tuiafutea Olsen Va’afusuaga and Eugene Meleisea for their service throughout the year.
“Thank you in particular to Ferron and Olsen for your years of service on the SCS board which will always be appreciated.”
Looking ahead, the President said the Samoa Conservation Society’s newly elected Board will focus on active engagement with its members and develop strategic partnerships to help move its work forward.
