Some Close Margins to Note:

Palauli 2: Faaolatane Fiu Tuala Iona Pao polled 582 votes – just two votes ahead of Fiu Faaolatane Ponifasio Vasa at 580. With just two votes, this is too close to call. With pre-polling and special votes yet to be counted, this could swing either way.

Safata 2: This margin of four votes is also too close to call. Preliminary results has FAST Party’s Tupai John Matthes ahead of HRPP’s Tuia Pua Letoa by just 4 votes. The Safata 2 result can therefore swing either way after pre-polling and special votes.

Vaaelua has 599 votes, while Magele Sekati, one of the youngest candidates of the race for Parliament, has 584.

Sagaga 3: The Leauvaa race has FAST Party’s Sala Paulo Tuala Poto at 853 votes with Tuala Olivetti Ah Him at 791. FAST is 62 votes ahead. Depending on how many pre-polled and how many special votes there are, there is a possibility for change in this result.

Alataua i Sisifo: The two candidate race between HRPP’s woman candidate, Aliimalemanu Alofa Tuuau and FAST party’s Taituave Lafaitele T Iona has FAST ahead by 55. Again, these margins should be watched very closely by Candidate Committees during Monday’s count of Special and Pre-Polling votes.

Post Election Cases

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has stated publicly to expect post election petitions. The Law states that a losing candidate must have half the votes of the winner before they can lodge a legal petition.

The petitions are accusations of corrupt practices and bribery by one candidate against another. The common practice has been – a petition is lodged by one – and then a counter petition is lodged by the other!
