Eleven Constituencies will have their ballots recounted before the District Court of Samoa following applications lodged by unsuccessful candidates of the recent general elections.
Under S85 of the Electoral Act of Samoa, candidates may apply within 3 days of the official count to have their constituency ballots recounted before the District Court.
The main ballots to be recounted are those which the final OEC count had rejected as “informal” or “void” for various reasons such as ticks that cover the boxes of two or more candidates. These ballots can be reconsidered before the District Court, if the intention of the voter can be ascertained.
Senior District Court Judge, Her Honor Talasa Atoa-Saaga issued an order for the recount of certain ballots to be held at Mulinuu from 2pm today, Tuesday 9 September 2025. The recount have been scheduled to Thursday 11 September 2025.
