Public Holiday Confirmed  for Independence Day Celebration

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour has announced that due to the celebration of the 57th Independence of the
government of Samoa this coming Saturday 1st of June, 2019 the 3rd of June which is Monday is a public holiday.

“In accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays Act 2008, the public, government agencies and the private sector are hereby advised
that Monday 3rd June is to be treated as a Public Holiday during the Independence Day Holidays,” stated the notice.

The notice sends a reminder to businesses who wish to open during the public holiday to follow the provisions of the Public
Holiday Act 2008, and for employees to comply with laws that dictate public holiday wage rates for employees.

“However, employers are reminded to comply with section 39 of the Labour Employment Relations Act 2013 in relation to the rate of wages to be paid to employees who work on Public holiday.”
