18 September 2025 Apia, Samoa — Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Samoa have announced a strategic temporary pause on its landmark multi-million-dollar private specialist hospital project in Savaiʻi.

PSH Founder and Managing Director Tagaloafaaofonuu Parvish Kumar, in response to questions from SGN, said there will be an urgent restructure of the shareholding “to ensure absolute corporate integrity”.

The move is a response to recent public discussion and concerns surrounding potential conflicts of interest of local shareholders.

To safeguard the transparency of the development, Tagaloafaaofonuu confirmed the immediate cancellation of all localised shares.

He said the final ownership structure will be reassessed, but the project outcomes and timeliness remain intact.

Tagaloafaaofonuu says PSH will convene a formal board meeting to rescind the shares of any individuals found to have conflicting interests.

“Due to the unforeseen issues surrounding the project’s preliminary equity structure, our investment group has opted to hold development for the time being,” stated Tagaloafaaofonuu Parvish Kumar.

“I am canceling all localised shares effective today (Friday),” he added.

“We are taking immediate steps via a formal board meeting to rescind shares from any parties with a conflict of interest..

“PSH remains fiercely committed to operating with complete transparency, and we will not allow local political issues to compromise a project built for the public good,” he added.

Restoring Focus to the Pacific Specialist Foundation’s Philanthropic Mission

The temporary pause shifts the regional spotlight back onto PSH’s primary objective: bridging the healthcare equity gap for vulnerable communities.

In 2025, Tagaloafaaofonuu launched the Pacific Specialist Foundation to bridge the gap in healthcare equity in the Pacific.

The Foundation actively funds and heavily subsidises complex, high-risk surgical procedures—including open-heart surgeries, valve replacements, and advanced orthopedic interventions—entirely free of charge for disadvantaged families who cannot afford traditional overseas medical evacuations.

“This hospital is about healthcare. It is about giving the people of Savai‘i better access to specialist services without always having to travel to Upolu or overseas for treatment,” Tagaloafaaofonuu said.

Through the Pacific Specialist Foundation, Tagaloafaaofonuu has championed a robust philanthropic model designed to ensure that low-income Pacific Islanders have direct, dignified access to life-saving medical care.

The Savaiʻi hospital expansion – designed as a 100% investor-funded project requiring zero financial debt from the Samoan public.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa said the Government stands to save millions in overseas medical referral costs, once specialist healthcare services can be provided by PSH Samoa in Savaii.

A Proven Track Record of Regional Medical Excellence

Tagaloafaaofonuu’s visionary leadership has already successfully transformed healthcare delivery across Melanesia and Polynesia.

Published testimonies of Kumar’s ambition to establish PSH Nadi led to Fiji’s largest state-of-the-art private medical infrastructure – a 130-bed specialty hospital that offers all treatments including surgeries for free to all citizens over 65.

Samoa’s leading provider of ICT Solutions.

“Equipped with an advanced Cardiac Cath Lab, high-resolution 1.5 Tesla MRI, and a state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chamber, the hospital successfully localizes complex tertiary care that previously required exhausting and cost-prohibitive travel to India, Australia, or New Zealand.”

Tagaloafaaofonuu says the local corporate structure will be cleansed of any perceived conflicts.

The project is part of PSH’s wider plan to expand specialist healthcare services across the Pacific and bring treatment closer to patients who would otherwise have to travel significant distances for care,” said the PSH Founder.

“For Savai‘i families, the proposed hospital would provide greater access to specialist services without the added burden of travelling to Upolu or overseas for some forms of treatment.”
