The 51 new police recruits who graduated today, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Police Academy at Tafaigata were reminded of the importance of integrity and service.
The group was reminded of these crucial traits in their line of work by Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt, who is also the Minister of Police, Prisons and Corrections Services.
The milestone celebration marks the endless sacrifices, dedication, and discipline from a 17-week rigorous training programme.
Now they are ready to serve the nation.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the course was meticulously designed to prepare recruits physically, mentally and ethically for their critical roles.
The culmination, however, of one journey is just the beginning of the real work, as they were further told.
The Prime Minister told them their graduation was not just a celebration of their achievements but the beginning of their duty to safeguard Samoa with ‘professionalism and honesty’.
Recognising the demanding nature of the training, he commended the recruits for their resilience and commitment, noting that their success was a testament to their determination and sacrifice.
He also underscored the profound responsibility that comes with the badge.
He urged the officers to always adhere to their oath and to uphold the laws of Samoa with confidence and fairness.
“Understanding the law is essential; it empowers you to act with accountability and justice.”
The graduates were reminded of the noble nature of policing, a profession rooted in courage, respect, and empathy, especially in a time where social media and technology pose both opportunities and challenges.
He drew attention to the support system that provides motivation and courage to the recruits to continue on with their journey into the force.
He acknowledged the pivotal role of families and supporters and expressed appreciation for their encouragement and prayers, which contributed significantly to the recruits’ success.
Officers should maintain discipline beyond their uniforms, as their conduct reflects on the entire Ministry and the country.
Gratitude was also expressed to the trainers, instructors, and staff dedicated to shaping these officers, affirming confidence in their potential to serve Samoa with humility and excellence.
