Prime Minister Hon Fiame Naomi Mataafa and her Cabinet shall continue as Samoa’s Caretaker Government until after the upcoming snap elections.
In a notice issued this morning by the Head of State His Highness Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, he confirms that “Cabinet shall continue to have the general direction and control of the Executive Government of Samoa until the first session of the Legislative Assembly following dissolution.”
This is the usual practice, to have the current administration continue until Parliament resumes after Elections.
However, supporters of the FAST Party are calling for their Chairman and Leader Hon Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Schmidt to be the Caretaker Government.
The Head of State was advised by Prime Minister Hon Fiame Naomi Mataafa, to dissolve Parliament following the 34-16 vote against the Budget for 2025-2026.
