The looming uncertainty prompted continuous power disruptions experienced by parts of the country is among the Government’s top priority to alleviate as soon as possible.
The assurances was made by the Prime Minister Laaulialemalitoa Polataivao Leuatea Fosi Schmidt this week during his first Press Conference on his return home after 7 weeks in New Zealand for medical treatment.
He reassured the country through the Press Conference that action will be taken.
At the same time, the Prime Minister also raised his suspicions alleging sabotage evidenced by the breakdown of one of the generators. He says reports points of negligence when someone threw a metal object into the generators causing severe damage which prompted power outage for the Big Island.
The Prime Minister says an internal inquiry into the incident should be implemented leaning his support on the Former EPC Minister’s suspicion that sabotage played a hand in damaging EPC generators and an inquiry must take place.
He added the updated report on the status of the leased generators installed at Fuluasou to maintain power supply awaiting the purchase and procurement of new generators will be provided to him and Cabinet this week.
“We are still leasing generators while the old generators are no longer operational,” he reiterated.
To assist with the unstable power supply, the Prime Minister said that renewable energy such as solar electricity is at the disposal of the Electric Power Corporation to sustain the country’s power needs.
And will provide the updated report in his Press Conference this Friday.
