The Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) issues a strong and serious warning to all social media users regarding the increasing spread of AI-generated content, fake accounts, fabricated information, and misleading posts on Facebook and other online platforms.
Members of the public are urged to stop, verify, and think carefully before believing, downloading, commenting on, or sharing any post that claims to originate from the Police, Government agencies, or other official authorities.
Unauthorized use of police insignia and official branding to create the appearance of police endorsement is misleading and against the law.
SPPCS will not tolerate the deliberate use of social media to deceive, threaten, harass, defame, scam, incite public disorder, impersonate authorities, infringe copyright, or misuse telecommunications networks. Police will continue to monitor harmful online activity and will investigate matters where offences are suspected.
Those responsible for deliberately creating or spreading harmful or deceptive content should be aware that any information submitted or circulated under fake identities will not be treated as credible or official information by the Ministry or Police.
