Police Update on Drug Raids: 55 Arrests over the last 4 months Aged between 16 and 53 Years

The Samoan police called a press conference today to publicly present drugs, mostly marijuana, confiscated in recent raids conducted by the Ministry.

Acting Police Commissioner, Leiatua Samuelu Afamasaga led the press conference.

He announced that the methanphetamine, marijuana, guns and ammunition displayed were from drug raids over the past four months between the 19th of January 2026 and today, 26th May.

“In between that time, we conducted 20 raids, during which we made 55 arrests. From the 55, there were 12 women aged between 18 to 47 years of age. There were 43 male aged between 16 and 53 years.

Leiataua said the illegal drugs seized from raids are the same as all raids. “There is meth, marijuana joints, marijuana plant and branches, utensils for smoking ice, illegal guns and ammunition..”

All of those arrested, all 55 are posted on the Samoa Police page, said Leiataua.

“That means that the work is continuing and the war against illegal drugs has not stopped..

“We are not resting until we catch all those who are dealing in drugs, importing and trading in illicit drugs,” stressed the Acting Commissioner.

“Police will not stop until we know that illegal drugs have been removed from Samoa.”

Leiataua stressed that the impacts of drug abuse affects families, including our children. “Is it also a health risk,” he added.

The Acting Commissioner called on the public to report any suspected behaviours that may be related to drugs. He called on family members as well as matai and Village Councils to report any suspicious movements, changes in income, or unexplained income amongst individuals.

Leiataua said Police Departments and Border Control Autorities in the Pacific are joining together to closely monitor the trans-shipment of illegal drugs through the borders of Pacific Islands.
