Plenty of Thrills and Spills in the PPS Super 9 Main Match

With tournament leaders Savai’i Vikings on a bye this week, Vaimauga Eels may have sneaked past them with their 29-20 win over the Navigators today.

In the main match of the fourth round, it was Schwartz Construction Atua Legends who exerted themselves past BSP Southern Tornadoes in a well disciplined tactical match with plenty of thrills and spills.

Legends got off to an early lead with a penalty kick in the first minute of the game.

But Tornadoes had other ideas and ran in two tries within a minute of each other to take the lead 12-3.

With both teams showing strength in their packs it was up to the backs to lead the charge and Legends stormed through with a try which was not converted. Score 12-8 to BSP Tornadoes.

Halftime was almost upon the teams when Legends took off on a tangent and scored three unanswered tries.

With two of these tries converted, Tornadoes suddenly find themselves on the back burner and a scoreline of 27-12 and an uphill trek.

They tried hard in the second half but with Legends running in two more tries to their two the final score was 37-24 to Schwarz Construction Atua Legends over BPS Southern Tornadoes.

Atua Legends were able to play the full 80 minutes, running in 2 tries in the dying minutes of the match.

The Under 20s march between Atua Legends and BSP Tornadoes was a close exiting match that had fans from both sides on the edge of their seats until the final hooter. Legends 27 – BSP Tornadoes 21.
