Samoa’s golden girl, 17-year-old weightlifter Seine Stowers showcased an outstanding year breaking world records, and achieving multiple gold medals for Samoa in the past 12 months, and considered one of the most promising emerging lifters in the world today.

Seine Stowers writes herself into the history books by being the first Samoan in an Olympic sport to set three world youth records. Stowers also won 3 gold medals and became the first lifter to set three world records at an Australian Championships, held this year in Melbourne Australia.

Lifting in the 77kg division, Stowers broke the snatch record with 107kg, surpassing the previous record of 106kg. She then smashed the Clean and Jerk world youth record with a total of 137kg, comfortably ahead of the previous world record of 133kg.

Stowers became the “First Samoan in Olympic Sports” to set 3 world records.

Samoa Weightlifting Federation President and Coach of Samoa Weightlifting Team, Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork said, “Seine has proven herself once again, and this is the first time in the history of weightlifting a Samoan has set 3 new world records.”

“Her flawless 6 for 6 performance has set her position as one of the most promising emerging lifters in the world, adds the IWF Executive Board Member.

At the Oceania Championship held earlier in the year she achieved two gold medals and set 6 new oceania records (3 Oceania youth records and 3 oceania junior records).

In the Pacific Mini Games held in Palau this year, Stowers had a clean sweep in the women’s 77kg winning 3 Gold Medals for Samoa. She also set 3 new Oceania records and 3 Pacific games records.

Stowers also competed in the IWF Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Lima, Peru. She secured two silver medals and a bronze for Samoa.

August this year Stowers competed in the women’s 77kg category at the Commonwealth Championships in India. She took out the gold medal for her weight category. Stowers also set two Commonwealth youth records and four Oceania records.

Seine Stowerd joined the sport at the age of 14 in 2022 through her older sister, Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Feagaiga Stowers.

In an interview with SGN, Seine Stowers said she has found a sport that she really loves and paid tribute to Head Coach Tuaopepe for pushing her to become the person she is today.

“He is a strict coach, but he pushes us to our limits,” she said.

“I remember when I first entered the sport I was this shy girl with low self-esteem and self-confidence, but Tuaopepe challenged me, and all of us, to strive for greatness..

“I am able to achieve all that I have achieved because of our Coach and I want to thank him for believing in me, and for believing in all of us.”

Tuaopepe challenged me, and all of us, to strive for greatness..

A well deserved year to be recognised for 17 year old Seine Stowers who has put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes and continues to train with discipline as Samoa Weightlifting prepare for the upcoming 2026 IWF Weightlifting World Cup hosted in Samoa in April this year.

The future of weightlifting in Samoa is definitely bright and Seine Stowers is one to watch!
