Police Confirm Death of Man “Suddenly Struck by a Vehicle” at Tuanaimato

17 July 2023 Apia Samoa. Samoa Police have confirmed that a pedestrian struck by a vehicle while walking along the road at Tunaimato had died of his injuries.

“A 51 year old male died around midnight on Friday after being suddenly struck by a vehicle at Tuanaimato,” reads a Samoa Police press statement issued today.

A 23-year-old female who had turned herself in after the incident has been charged with negligent driving causing death.

“She is remanded on bail until August 14th 2023 for a court appearance.”

Police have stated that the suspect is ordered to sign at the Traffic Enforcement Division at Matautu every Wednesday.

“We send condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.”

It is the second road fatality within 10 days in Samoa. On 5 July 2023 the driver of a vehicle that overturned along a hilly road at Tapatapao died as a result of his injuries.

Samoa Police and the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority continue caution drivers to take care on the roads and stay within the set speed limits for Samoa.
