Payne Haas adds Taufua – Mom’s Last Name to his Jersey

Payne Haas has added his mom’s last name to his playing jersey for the Pacific Championship final match against the Kiwis.

:One of my proudest moments is to be able to represent my mum’s last name this weekend,” says Haas in an interview.

Haas and grandfather is from the village of Laulii. He says his grandfather is a little unwell.

Payne’s name was chosen by his Mom because she was going through turmoil when he was born, he said at an earlier interview.

Standing with his uncle at the jersey presentation, Haas Taufua says it is fitting that his uncle is right by his side for this moment.

“He is the person who paved the way for us kids and showed us there’s light at the end of the tunnel.. Alofa Aku Unc.’
