THE HIDDEN COST OF SELFISH GAIN

Proverbs 23:3 “Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.”

This verse warns us about the danger of being enticed by what looks appealing but comes with hidden motives or costs.

In the context of Proverbs 23, it refers to dining with powerful people who may use their generosity as a way to manipulate or gain influence over you.

It Is a reminder that not everything that looks good is good for the soul.

In our lives, this principle applies beyond literal food. We are surrounded by opportunities, offers, and invitations that promise success, status, or comfort—but often at the price of compromise.

What we “crave” reveals our heart’s priorities. When our appetites—whether for approval, power, or luxury—are unchecked, they can make us vulnerable to deception.

God invites us to be wise and content, discerning between genuine blessings and traps disguised as opportunities.

True satisfaction is found not in craving delicacies but in seeking the One who is the Bread of Life.

Do you evaluate opportunities by how they honour God or just by what you can gain

Are you chasing something shiny but spiritually shallow?

Pause before making a big decision and ask: “Is this truly from God, or is it a deceptive delicacy that appeals to my pride or greed?”

Prayer:

Father, guard my heart from being deceived by things that look good but lead me away from You. Teach me contentment and help me crave what truly nourishes my soul—Your Word, Your presence, and Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Have a great day.

God bless and lots’a love,

Warren
