Friday 7th January 2022. The Congregational Christian Church (EFKS) at Patamea, Savaii has been destroyed by a fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Commissioner Tanuvasa Petone Mauga said the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) were alerted at 5am this morning.

“The Maota Station responded  with backup support from Asau Station,” confirmed the Commissioner.

Tanuvasa said the special investigation team were also called in to assess possible causes.

“Investigations continue, however preliminary reports points to a suspected electrical fault,” said the Commissioner.

A family member told Samoa Global News the church building was completed in 2004 and the congregation had last year celebrated the completion of their loan, with their mortgage fully paid off.

The EFKS Patamea is led by Susuga Tanielu Tupusē and his faletua, Tuvalu Soli Tupusē.

Patamea is a village in the Gaga’emauga district near the central north coast of Savaii. While most villages on Savai’i are situated near the sea, Patamea is situated inland, away from the coast.
