Over 1,000 Active Cases of Covid-19 in American Samoa, No Deaths and Just 4 in Hospital

The latest update from the American Samoa Ministry of Health confirms a total of 1188 positive cases in the Territory since the coronavirus virus entered the community. With 135 of those having fully recovered, there leaves 1,053 active cases, all isolating in their own homes while just four are reported to be in hospital.

The Territory also confirms there have been no deaths since the first community cases were discovered two weeks ago.

“We are in the early stages of the outbreak and there are going to be more cases moving forward,” the statement reads.

The protocol adopted by American Samoa is for infected individuals to self-isolate at home. “The Department of Education is working with the Department of Homeland Security to distribute meals to families in isolation at home “.

In one day, 183 individuals tested positive outcomes of the 790 who were tested.

American Samoa’s vaccination sites are drive through centres. For the elderly and persons with a disability, the Ministry also confirms vaccination teams are being deployed to visit their homes.
