Boxing Day: When the wrapping comes off and what remains is what truly matters

BOXING DAY: WHEN THE WRAPPING COMES OFF 2 Corinthians 8:9 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”

Paul reminds the Corinthians that Christian generosity flows from the gospel itself.

He points them to Jesus, who willingly laid aside heavenly riches in the incarnation and the cross, becoming “poor” for our sake, so that we might share in the true riches of salvation and life in God.

Our giving, then, is A RESPONSE OF GRATITUDE THAT GLORIFIES CHRIST and what He has accomplished. Christmas Day is often full. Full tables, full homes, full hearts.

Boxing Day is quieter. The noise fades. The wrapping paper lies crumpled. What remains is what truly matters.

Boxing Day takes its name from generosity—boxes given to the poor, gifts shared beyond one’s own household.

In many ways, it captures the heart of Christmas better than Christmas Day itself. Christ didn’t merely arrive to be admired; He came to give Himself away—to serve others, and to lay down His life.

Jesus was laid in a borrowed manger, lived without great possessions, and died with nothing to His name. Yet in that poverty, He gave us the riches of grace—peace with God, forgiveness of sins, and new life. Christmas proclaims that GOD GAVE HIS SON. Boxing Day begs the question: WHAT WILL WE DO WITH GOD’S PRECIOUS GIFT OF SALVATION NOW?

This is the day to slow down and let Christmas sink deeper. To move from celebration to imitation. To ask not only what did I receive? but WHO CAN I BLESS? It might be generosity with our resources, patience with our family, compassion toward someone overlooked, or forgiveness that has been long delayed.

The angels have sung. The gifts have been opened. Now the life of Christ is meant to be lived out—hands open, hearts softened, grace shared.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Yourself so freely. As the celebrations quieten, help me carry Your generosity into ordinary days. Teach me to live open-handed, just as You did. In Your wonderful name, I pray. Amen.

Have a fabulous weekend. God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
