Samoa Covid-19 Situational Report from 2pm 06 May to 2pm 8 May 2022. The Ministry of Health has confirmed 1 new Covid-19 related death, taking the total number of recorded deaths for Samoa to 23. The deceased is an 80 year old male with known comorbidities and was unvaccinated.
The Ministry offers its prayers and condolences to the families and children of the elderly lady who has passed away. “Out of respect for the families and relatives, we will not be making any further comments.”
In the 40-hour period being reported, the Ministry confirmed 119 new community cases and five (5) patients currently in managed isolation at Motootua hospital. The additional 119 takes the total number of confirmed community cases to 10,969. The majority of community cases (9,646) are based in Upolu, while Savaii’s numbers edges forward to 1,308, while Manono Island has 15.
With 76 border cases, Samoa’s total count is now 11,045.
Vaccination Status
For adults over 18 years, 93% (or 113,197 by number) are fully vaccinated. There have been 73,660 boosters administered, meaning close to 40k adults are yet to be boosted, or have not reached the 3-month period since their second dose.
Vaccinations continue at all district hospitals, and centrally located sites in Urban Apia and Salelologa.

The public is reminded to remain vigilant and adhere to public health advice such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distance in public places, and ensure personal hygiene at all times. The Ministry also advised those who are feeling unwell to stay home and isolate to keep your families and loved ones safe. “Please get vaccinated as vaccination remains our best defense against COVID-19”.
