One Arrest in Police Marijuana Raid in Savaii

The Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services (SPPCS) have arrested and charged a 34-year-old male following a drug raid in Savaii.

A media release states the raid was led by its Vaitoomuli Outpost on Tuesday 9th January 2024.

“Police seized from the property fresh marijuana plants, containers filled with marijuana dry leaves, marijuana cigarettes and dried marijuana plants,” states the release.

Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo was unable to confirm volumes of drugs confiscated.

From the photos issued with the media release, pot plants and smaller plants are seen.

No mention was made if cash was found on the premises.

“The 34-year-old suspect has been arrested and is remanded in custody until the 6th of February 2024 for mention.”

“Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services acknowledges the public for their ongoing support and for relaying information on criminal activities in our community.”

The Police have kick started the year with a coming down on drugs. Last week Police charged 14 of the 18 people detained from a Police raid of a residence in Malifa.

In both raids there was no mention of cash being found as part of things confiscated.

In the past, local media had been alerted to attend and view the transparent listing and display of all things found and confiscated during raids, including cash found on premises.

That practice is now replaced with the Police media unit publishing photos they themselves had taken, and issuing media releases.
