A family home with two toddlers and a newborn baby that was raided by police on Monday morning under a search warrant issued for Daryl Mapu, has been a known location used by Mapu for selling drugs.

Fuaesi Jean Afualo told Samoa Global News that armed police dressed in army clothes raided their home at 5am on Monday morning.

Fuaesi alleged Police had pointed guns towards her, her sister and her young children, telling them to stay still and not move.

“Police were looking for Daryl Mapu but I told them that don’t know who that it is,” said Fuaesi.

In response, Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo says no weapons were pointed to any family members as Fuaesi has alleged.

The home is one of the locations at Vaitele used by Daryl to sell his drugs from, said the Police Commissioner.

“That family is related to Daryl and their home is one of the locations on the warrant.”

After the raid of Fuaesi’s home at Vaitele the Police went to a second location at Nuu, where Daryl was arrested.

The Police Commissioner said Fuimaono Afualo Daryl Mapu was arrested with 66 grams of meth, utensils, unlawful ammunitions and $20,000 tala cash.

Samoa’s former Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Faumui Afualo Daryl Mapu, was found guilty of possession of narcotics and illegal firearms in September 2022. In November of the same year Faumui Afualo was handed a prison sentence of one year and six months.

Fuaesi Jean Afualo had contacted the media after her home was raided on Monday morning. She produced a copy of the search warrant, saying the police had raided her home by mistake, and that she did not know anyone by the name of Daryl Mapu.

The search warrant refers to house(s) and vehicle(s) at Nuu Fou and Vaitele.

Copy of warrant produced by Fuaesi Jean Afualo.

However, Samoa Police are adamant that Fuaesi’s home had been used by Daryl Mapu, as a location for his drug sales.

Fuaesi has twin toddlers, aged three, and a newborn baby just 3 weeks old. Her elderly father, 69, and her younger sister all live in the location alleged by police, and were home at the time of the raid.

Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo expressed dissapointment in the local news media who had run the allegations made by Fuaesi Jean Afualo, without contacting police for a comment.

“Noone reached out to us for a comment, and NO WEAPONS WERE POINTED TO ANY FAMILY MEMBER as they have alleged,” said Auapaau.

“We hope that clarifies this and sets the record straight about the allegations made by that family.”

“Samoa Police have proper protocols to follow and the Officers are also fathers,” said the Police Commissioner. “We can assure you no weapons were pointed to any family members, especialy children.”
