“Reports from Treasury reaffirms that funds are available for normal government operations such as development but the output for public servants wages are in danger,” said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister then reassured the country that the budget issue is under control and will be addressed to to ensure noone is negatively impacted.

The government had been operating on a 3-month budget allowed by its Constitution, as a result of the political standoff leading to the General Elections.

In announcing the first Cabinet action, the Prime Minister explained that the Ministry of Finance under Finance Minister Mulipola Anarosa Molio’o – is preparing an emergency budget for the Head of States’ endorsement.

The emergency budget should have sufficient funds to sustain government for 30 days to await the full budget submission and approvable by Parliament tentatively in October.

The budget debate will follow the requirements mandated by Parliaments’ Standing Orders – which include a review by the Public Accounts Committee, and then tabled to be debated before it is put to the vote.
