New Zealand Sevens have swept the Dubai 7’s with both their Men’s and Women’s team winning the Cup Final.  The men’s went undefeated in Dubai, winning all five matches.  They were pooled with Great Britain (21-14), Australia (21-17) and Spain (24-7).

This set up a semi-final with the flying Fijians. The match came down to the last play when Brady Rush dived in the corner for the winning try.

New Zealand would meet old time foes Australia in the finals. Both teams would score four tries each, however the difference came down to conversions.  Australia missed three 2 pointers and it proved the difference with New Zealand winning 26-22.

The Woman’s side of the draw was no different as the Kiwis defeated Australia 29-14 in the Cup Final.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for New Zealand in the pool stages.  A 17-21 defeat to the USA meant there was a chance New Zealand could miss out on the semi-finals.  They made it through safely by 1 point that they earned by losing to USA within 7 points.

Once they were through to the semi-finals there was no stopping the New Zealand Women.  They would walk through Japan 31-5 before taking care of their Trans-Tasman rivals in the finals.

Dubai is the first tournament of the 2025/2026 Sevens World Series. The next tournament will be in Cape Town this coming weekend.
