Samoa’s Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga confirmed to Samoa Global News that no Member of Parliament has been arrested for drugs following false posts on social media implicating a FAST MP from Savaii.
On Sunday morning in a media release signed by Deputy Commissioner, Leausalilo Norman Tuafale Meni, the Samoa Police urge the public to use social media responsibly by verifying information before sharing it.
The Samoa Police reminds the public that spreading false information and defamatory statements online is illegal under the law.
“The Samoa Police, Prison and Correction Services wishes to address and correct adefamatory post currently circulating on Facebook alleging that a Member of Parliament was caught in a police raid where marijuana and methamphetamine were found in his house.”
“We categorically state that these allegations are false and baseless. No such raid has taken place, and no Member of Parliament has been involved in the alleged incident.”
The Samoa Police reminds the public that spreading false information not only damage reputations but also undermines public trust and social harmony.
“Upholding the truth, respecting the law, and relying on official sources are essential to maintaining public trust, peace, and unity in Samoa.
“We call upon the people of Samoa to stand together in support of law and order, ensuring a peaceful and respectful society for all.
