Open Casting Call for Role of Moana in Live-Action Remake

An open casting call has this week been released for the role of Moana in the upcoming live-action remake of the film.

No prior acting experience is required, however, only those with a strong singing voice will be considered.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures is seeking someone to protray the lead role after its original actor Aulii Cravalho announced she will not be taking it up.
Auli’i Cravalho was famously cast to voice Moana when she was only 14 years old, becoming the first teenager to ever play a Disney Princess.
On May 20, Cravalho shared a video message to fans revealing she would instead be involved in the production of the live action remake.
“When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career,” said Cravalho in the video. “In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role.
“I believe it is absolutely vital the casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell.”
“So, as an executive producer on the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit and emotional strength,” continued Cravalho. “I’m truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific peoples cultures and communities that help inspire her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representations to come. Mahalo”
