The Ministry of Education Sports and Culture (MESC) have extended the temporary closure of schools for the rest of this week.

Confirmed in a notice published on the Ministry’s facebook page just before 6pm this afternoon, Afamasaga Dr Karoline Afamasaga-Fuatai confirms that all public schools will resume on Monday 24th February 2020.

That makes it a four day shut down of schools due to extreme weather conditions.

NUS, Church and Private Schools have been contacted for an update.

The latest weather report issued at 5pm this afternoon confirms that “an active convergence zone remains over Samoa and will continue to usher widespread showers with possible heavy falls and fresh and gusty winds at times”.

“A weak low pressure system embedded along the convergence zone approximately 259km west of Apia, as evident in the latest sattelite loop continues to move towards Samoa and will maintain unsettled weather conditions for this evening into tonight.”

“Expect persistent strong and damaging winds. Heavy rain and damaging swells”.

“Tropical Depression 07F locates to the west of Wallis and has a low to moderate potential to develop into a cyclone within the next 24 hours.”

“The system is forecasted to maintain its South West movement with slight intensification.”
