A matai appeared today before the Supreme Court of Samoa charged with indecent assault against an 8-year old boy of his village.
Represented by his lawyer Magele Leone Su’a-Mailo, the man who holds a high chiefly title, was granted name suppression to protect the identity of the victim.
The incident occurred last month, and was reported to Police by the boy’s parents. Police have held the accused in custody since his arrest, and a bail hearing has been scheduled.
The matter will be mentioned again next week for Prosecution to finalise charges against the defendant.
