By: Leota Marc Membrere, Savaii Samoa, 29 September 2026. Flights between Savaii and Upolu will soon recommence after the reopening of the Maota Airport.
Government had announced the reopening of Maota earlier this month, and the Samoa Airport Authority, CEO Tumanuvao Evile Falefatu has confirmed the date to be Thursday 8th of October 2026.
A visit to Maota shows renovation works are near completion at the Savaii airport.
The initial plan is for two flights between Upolu and Savaii for three days a week.
One flight in the morning and one in the afternoon. These flights are scheduled to operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only.
With White Sunday approaching, it will assist families who wish to travel to Savai’i for the occasion, as well as those who wish to travel from Savai’i to Upolu.
The Samoa Airport Authority Chief Executive says flights between Upolu and Maota will resume for now, and the SAM’S future plans will also see the Asau airport in operation.
“Asau will also soon be resuming domestic flights…”
