Manu Samoa 7s to hold Final Trials at Apia Park

The Manu Samoa 7s will be holding their final trials at Apia Park on Thursday 12 October 2023.

Muliagatele Brian Lima’s wider squad of 32 players have been divided into three teams for the final trials before the season ahead.

A post on the team’s socials from Return to Paradise Resort says the squad are in recovery mode, set and ready for trial matches to be held at Apia Park stadium.

The Manu Samoa 7s will then embark on two tournaments in the coming month.

The Oceania Rugby 7s Championship will be hosted by Queensland Rugby Union at Ballymore Stadium 10-12 November 2023. The tournament will feature 25 teams – 15 men’s and 10 women’s teams from 14 countries in the region.

Samoa will be vying for Olympics qualification at the Oceania tournament. The top placed men’s and the top placed women’s teams in the Olympic qualification sections of the 2023 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

New Zealand, Australia and Fiji have all qualified leaving Samoa to contest for the final Oceania spot alongside other hopeful Pacific nations such as Tonga, Cook Is, PNG.

The Manu Samoa 7s will also be participating in the Sol2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands. The Rugby 7s tournament kick starts on Thursday 23rd November until Saturday 25th November.

The Manu Samoa 7s wider squad have had an intensive off-season focused on strength and conditioning.

The team have had 5am sessions with Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork at the Samoa Weightlifting Federation High Performance Unit and the players are looking solid having built up power and strength.
