Man Serving Time at Tanumalala Charged with Possession of Narcotics

Translated from the files of FaaSamoa. A man currently serving time at Tanumalala prison appeared in the Supreme Court of Samoa this week, charged with possession of marijuana.

The inmate was brought in from Tanumalala to face three charges laid against him.

Sefo Amituana’i is charged with possession of 27 marijuana seeds and 34 branches totalling 13.48 grams.

Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma addressed the defendant who pleaded not guilty to the charges.

“These are very serious charges against you,” said Justice Roma. “Especially so because you are currently serving time at Tanumalala, and now face drug related charges.”

When Justice Roma set a hearing date of the 19th of April 2023 for the matter to be heard given Mr Amituana’is not guilty plea, the defendant told the Court he was due to be released on the 3rd of April 2023.

Justice Roma told the inmate his release would go ahead as scheduled, however, he is required to present his defence on the 19th of April for the new charges laid against him.
