The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has clarified the ownership and registration of a vehicle assigned to the Prime Minister’s Principal Adviser following questions raised in a local newspaper article.
The LTA confirmed that the vehicle’s registration plate has been changed to a private plate, while ownership of the vehicle remains with the Government of Samoa through the LTA.
According to the authority, the change was made at the discretion of the Prime Minister, who also serves as the Minister responsible for the LTA.
The LTA said the Prime Minister has the authority to make such adjustments when necessary, particularly where they are considered essential for his safety and security.
The clarification comes after questions were raised over the vehicle’s use of a private registration plate despite remaining Government property.
The LTA has reiterated that the change in registration plate does not alter the Government’s ownership of the vehicle.
