James 4:11
“BROTHERS AND SISTERS, DO NOT SLANDER ONE ANOTHER.”
Happy Tuesday Saints.
The Greek word translated “slander” means “to speak against; to backbite; to criminate; to speak evil of.”
Your fellow Christians are your brothers and sisters and the Bible commands us not to speak evil of them.
Everybody has their weaknesses and faults, and all of us should be dealing with our own shortcomings without shining a light on other Christian’s flaws.
Jesus said in Luke 6:42 that before you start dealing with the speck in someone else’s eye, “FIRST GET THE LOG OUT OF YOUR OWN EYE.”
Ephesians 4:31 says to “GET RID OF ALL BITTERNESS, RAGE, ANGER, HARSH WORDS AND SLANDER, AS WELL AS ALL TYPES OF EVIL BEHAVIOUR.”
Slandering someone to others is evil. Talking against someone else’s motives, efforts, character, or family, is not honourable Christian behaviour.
Proverbs 6:19 tells us that the Lord hates those who sow “DISCORD AMONG BRETHREN.”
This includes husbands and wives who slander their spouse to others; and family members who speak against one another. They sometimes do it under the guise of sharing concerns or seeking counsel, but really, they’re just dishonouring their own family members to other people.
There is a time and a place to seek wise counsel, but if you’re talking to someone who’s close to both parties, you’re only causing division! This is the type of evil speaking that the Bible tells us to RID OURSELVES of.
Love others as you do yourself and be kind.
God bless and lots’a love,
Warren
