Happy Friday Saints.
1Corinthians 11:18 “I HEAR THAT WHEN YOU COME TOGETHER AS A CHURCH, THERE ARE DIVISIONS AMONG YOU.”
The church in the above verse refers not to a building but a gathering of believers. They were assembling for communion and combined worship. And even though they were physically gathered together in one location – they were divided.
They weren’t being considerate or loving towards one another. The church’s rich ate and drank their provisions before the poor could partake. And although communion was supposed to bring them together, their selfishness and greed resulted in discord and division.
The heart is always more important than the outward form of worship. And although communion is an essential ordinance, partaking of it won’t glorify God or honour Jesus’ sacrifice when the church is divided.
On another occasion, the Apostle Paul prayed that the church in Philippi would make his joy complete “BY BEING LIKE MINDED, HAVING THE SAME LOVE, BEING ONE IN SPIRIT AND OF ONE MIND.” (Philippians 2:2)
It’s more than just thinking alike; it’s also about having the SAME LOVE for one another and BEING ONE IN SPIRIT.
Unity is a heart condition. As we saw on Wednesday, it’s about having A HEART TOWARD others for unity.
Love is what allows people from different cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds to live together in harmony. It’s the UNITY OF THE SPIRIT that holds us all together.
A divided church cannot hope to unite a divided world. Let’s ALL do our part and MAKE EVERY EFFORT to be joined together as ONE.
Have a great weekend living in harmony with those around you.
God bless, and lots’a love,
Warren
