The never ending cycle of travel and treatment
I listened to our PM’s address to the nation on Thursday evening, in which he revealed that he had once again been hospitalized in New Zealand and assured the public that there was no need for concern.
We learned that he actually travelled a day later.
We pray for his full and speedy recovery, however, La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt needs to consider delegating some of these overseas trips.
For example, the recent trip to Australia and Tokelau, during which he fell ill, could have been assigned to another Cabinet Minister.
Apart from staying home to fully recover, there are some domestic issues that need the Prime Minister to be in Samoa.
Laauli is the only one who can issue instructions to Ministers and public servants.
He needs to direct them to fix the shortages of medicines and improve hospital services.
He also needs to find a solution to the electricity shutdowns.
Ever since taking over six years ago, La’auli and the FAST Party have preferred travelling overseas rather than attending to the needs of our people.
These trips are expensive, and it is the Samoan taxpayer and donor taxpayers who are paying for them.
Recent media reports that the Minister of Sports, his son, the CEO, and the Associate Minister are all travelling to the Commonwealth Games is yet another waste of public money.
But of course, it is not surprising as they are simply following the example of their leadership.
How about staying home, enjoy the fresh Samoa air, and fix something.
Anything.
