GRANT CONTRACT SIGNED: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki and President of Leifiifi College School Committee, Rula Su’a-Vaai.

The Government of Japan provides assistance worth up to USD 108,880 equivalent to SAT 285,000 to Leifiifi College through its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki signed the Grant Contract with President of the School Committee, Rula Su’a-Vaai to formalise Japan’s funding assistance to the school.

The Signing Ceremony was hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Apia.

The Project aims for reconstruction of a classroom building and renovation of the school hall that will serve for educational, cultural and social activities.

The school hall has been serving for such purposes for more than fifty years which no longer efficiently caters specifically for educational activities due to the increasing number of students.

The Government of Japan believes that by providing assistance directly to recipients in Samoa not only ensures effective use of the grant, but also achieves Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy objective of promoting development at the grass-roots level.

Japan acknowledges basic necessities such as provision for education, good health care and water facilities is the key to socio-economic development and hopes to contribute in the improvement of the daily lives of the people of Samoa through its GGP.

It is hope that upon completion of the Project it will be able to provide a much efficient space for the increasing roll of the school and to serve multi purposes for both the school and nearby communities.
