Last year, golf clubs in Samoa came together for the first time to vie for the best golf club at the inaugural Taula Samoa IBFC Golf Clubs Championship 2021.

Le Vaiotausala Golf School from Fagalii emerged as the victor to claim the title of the Top Golf Club in Samoa. Second place was won by Mike’s School with Marist B.I.G Golf Club coming in 3rd.

This year, three overseas golf clubs and 10 local golf clubs will battle it out at the second instalment of this tournament, now called Taula Samoa IBFC International Golf Clubs Championship.

All proceeds from the tournament will go towards the Marist Taxi Junior Golf program that runs out of Faleata Golf Course.

“We praise God for the sponsors, especially the naming rights sponsors Taula and Samoa IBFC. Without them, we would not be able to host this tournament,” says Paulo Stowers, Captain of Marist B.I.G Golf Club and hosts of the tournament.

“The development of the next generation of golfers for Samoa opens up opportunities for our youth, and this years proceedings will all go towards the Taxi Junior Golf program at Faleata,” added Stowers.

The inclusion of overseas clubs was a response to the challenge issued by Honourable Seuula Ioane, Minister of Education, Sports & Culture at the launch of last year’s tournament.

The Minister challenged the organisers to host the event annually and to include overseas teams, when boarders reopen.

This year’s overseas teams are Tafesilafai Golf Club and Good Times Golf Club from American Samoa; and Marist Pro-V Golf Club from Auckland, New Zealand.

Aside from vying for the title of Top Golf Club, the winning club will also win $4,000 plus the trophy and medals.

According to the Tournament Director Taupau Carlton Chadwick, “We are splitting the players into 2 groups given the increase in the number of players this year. Each playing group will get to play at Fagalii and Tuanaimato during the 2 days of the tournament.”

Both golf courses at Fagalii and Tuanaimato will be hosting the 2-day event on the 16th and 17th September with the launch on the 14th of September.

The tournament is noted by Samoa Tourism Authority as one of the official events of Samoa’s 60th Independence Celebrations.
