Toa Samoa and Penrith Panthers’ star playmaker Jarome Luai has been presented with a contract offer from the West Tigers that could potentially reshape the landscape of the National Rugby League (NRL).

The proposed deal, a massive 5-year, $6 million Australian dollar agreement, has sent shockwaves through the rugby league community.

In response to some media outlets reporting the contract has been sealed, Luai posted on Instagram underneath a NRL on Nine graphic detailing the Tigers report.

Luai wrote “No pen to paper here. I’ll let yous know when a deal is done”.

Of Samoan decent through his paternal grandparents from Palauli Savaii, the dynamic and talented halfback played a pivotal role in the Panthers’ 2021, 2022 and 2023 Premiership victories and has since emerged as one of the hottest commodities in the NRL with a character that emanates both on and off the field.

The West Tigers, who are keen on bolstering their roster and aiming for a resurgence in the upcoming seasons, have aggressively pursued Luai to secure his services.

Luai could reunite with former teammate Api Koroisau, who served as the Panthers’ half-back during the 2022 season. The prospect of the dynamic duo linking up once again has heightened excitement among West Tigers supporters, envisioning a formidable partnership that could elevate the team’s performance.

While negotiations are still ongoing, the NRL community awaits to see whether Jarome Luai will don the black, orange, and white jersey of the West Tigers in the 2024 season, and whether the partnership with Koroisau will come to fruition.

The potential transfer adds an extra layer of anticipation and excitement to the offseason, leaving fans eager to see how this development will impact the competitive balance of the league.
