Happy Friday Saints.
Yesterday, we ended with the thought of working with God to get the issues of the heart right before we do anything else.
In Psalm 139:23-24, the psalmist prayed, “SEARCH ME GOD AND KNOW MY HEART; TEST ME AND KNOW MY ANXIOUS THOUGHTS. SEE IF THERE IS ANY OFFENSIVE WAY IN ME, AND LEAD ME IN THE WAY EVERLASTING.”
Have you ever asked the Lord to search your heart or test your thoughts? It takes humility and courage to let Him show you what’s going on inside your INNERMOST BEING.
The Hebrew word translated “OFFENSIVE WAY” also means “THE WAY OF AN IDOL,” i.e. “idolatry.”
It’s not uncommon for us to idolise our own thoughts and ways above the Lord’s. We hold on to our wrong way of thinking, flawed reasoning, terrible motives, bad habits, and destructive behaviours like they are an unchangeable part of who we are. We remain inflexible when we are supposed to be teachable and moldable by God.
Our personalities, temperaments, identities, and natures are not excuses for us to remain unchangeable.
The Bible teaches us about renewing the mind, growing in grace, increasing in understanding, gaining wisdom and knowledge, maturing in stature to become more like Christ, and pressing forward to what lies ahead.
It’s God’s desire that we GROW. We may all grow at different rates, but whether we are fast or slow – with the right heart – we can ALL learn something new, unlearn something unhealthy, and develop Christlike character.
Let’s not make idols of our weaknesses. May God give us the strength and grace to change ANY OFFENSIVE WAY that He may find inside our hearts and lead us IN THE WAY EVERLASTING.
Have a great weekend. God bless, and lots’a love,
