01 April 2019, Apia Samoa. Large crowds of people lined the Apia seawall to watch a magnificent display of fireworks that marked the launch of the Chinese-Pacific Tourism 2019 initiative aimed at increasing the Pacifics share of the 140 billion outbound Chinese tourists each year.
People were seen sitting along the seawall from behind the Government building, all the way to the Sheraton Hotel where the event was launched, and then around to the Matautu bend towards the wharf.
Families were set up with picnic dinners by the seawall area and the Samoa Police Service were in full force to guide the crowds through and control traffic.
There were a lot of live videos and selfies being uploaded and excited gasps of “ooohhs” and “aaaaahhs” from children and adults alike, were heard as the fireworks display continued to impress the crowd for over 15 minutes.
Delegates from China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism are here to discuss the development of Pacific Tourism with members of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) which Samoa currently chairs.
