HRPP Deputy Leader Faces Election Petition in Court

Wednesday 7 July 2021 Mulinuu Apia Samoa. The election petition brought by FAST woman candidate Toomata Norah Leota against HRPP Deputy Leader, Fonotoe Pierre Lauofo has been postponed to tomorrow morning.

Toomata Norah Leota polled 780 votes to Fonotoe’s 1121 at the April 9th general election.  Toomata’s votes represented 35.35% of the total 2,200 votes casted for Anoamaa 1 constituency, second to Aliimalemanu Alofa Tuuau who achieved over 40% of total votes.

This morning in Court Justice Lesatele Rapi Vaai on behalf of the two-judge panel with Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma stated that an application by Fonotoe’s lawyers to make amendments to their counter petition had been granted.

Counsel for Fonotoe, Tuatagaloa Shane Wulf, has been given until tomorrow (Wednesday) to submit amendments requested to be made to two paragraphs in the counter-petition against Toomata Nora.

The team of Alex Sua and Fetu Lagaaia are representing the FAST candidate accusing Fonotoe of 8 counts of bribery and 3 of treating.

Fonotoe’s counter-petition accuses Toomata Norah of six counts of bribery.
