Tuesday 17 May 2022, Apia Samoa. Following the Prime Minister’s special announcement on Monday night, high schools in Samoa will reopen on Wednesday 18th May 2022.
“The resumption of Colleges, and Post Secondary Education Training (PSET) on 18th May 2022, Primary Schools on the 30th of May 2022, and Pre Schools on the 4th of July 2022”.
The Ministry of Education has issued an announcement saying, Principals and teachers to facilitate the resumption of classes using the staggered approach by levels.
On their separate social media pages, High Schools across Samoa have issued announcements regarding the protocols to be followed as well as which classes to attend various days of the week.
All students are to present a vaccination card showing that they have been double vaccinated. Masks are compulsory and social distancing will be enforced. Students are also encouraged to bring hand sanitisers and/or wear gloves, in the case of one school announcement.
High Schools are staggering classes, with different days assigned to different year levels. High School notices are also slightly different with the protocols to be taken.
For Faleata College, they are staggering the days with Year 9 and Year 11 asked to come in on Wednesday, while Years 10, 12 and 13 are asked to come in this Thursday and Friday.
For Vaimauga College, years 9 and 10 are asked to come in on Thursday, while Years 11, 12 and 13 are asked to come in on Wednesday and Friday.
The schedule for next week is not included on some school notices.
For Leifiifi College, Years 12 and 13 are asked to come in from Wednesday 18th to Friday 20th May. There is also no reference to next weeks classes.
For Avele College, a more comprehensive staggered approach is taken between year levels and also between Commerce, Arts, Science and TVET students.
There is also a clear outline in the Avele College notice of which days are assigned to which year levels going forward.
