
A teacher at St. Joseph’s College appeared before the District Court on Tuesday morning for one count of assault.
According to the police summary of facts, Mr. Sale Tago was charged for slapping an ex-student of St. Joseph’s College who allegedly started a fight between spectators during a rugby match hosted by St Joseph’s College in May this year.
The defendant and some of the teachers were trying to stop this fight, and Mr Tago ended up slapping the victim.
Representing Mr Tago was his lawyer Afa Lesa who told the Court his client has pleaded guilty to the charge of assault against the victim.
Judge Talasa-Atoa Sa’aga adjourned the matter for sentencing on the 26th of July this year.
The victim has been charged for actual bodily harm in relation to the same incident. He is due to appear in the District Court later this month.
Another teacher of St. Joseph’s College, Mr Peni Fereti who had also been charged for assault towards student from the same incident, recently passed away on Sunday.
