“Government is there to serve all people, not just those easiest to reach”

The Government, through the Public Sector are there to serve all people, and not just those who are easiest to reach. This was the message from MWCSD CEO, Loau Donina Vaa in a presentation delivered at the Public Administration Sector Annual Review held at Tanoa Tusitala this past week.

The presentation explored what meaningful inclusion looks like in practice.

The CEO of the soon to be Ministry of Family and Social Affairs shared a vision for what Meaningful Social Inclusion looks like in practice.

Loau Donina Va’a said it was important to focus on making a “Commitment to Transformation” by shifting mindsets during policy development and implementation, to enaure we are asking the right questions about inclusion.

Addressing public sector leaders from across Government, the CEO encouraged participants to see Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) not as another Government initiative, but as a way of strengthening governance and delivering better public services.

Public servants were encouraged to ask three simple questions before developing policies, programmes or services:

• Who benefits?

• Who participates?

• Who might still be left behind?

The session also recognised the Public Service Commission’s launch of the United Nations GEDSI Online Course, now available to all public servants.

The course is an important investment in building an inclusive, people centred Public Service.
